Welcome from the Governing Body

At St Martin de Porres, our Governing Body works in partnership with the Headteacher and staff to ensure that every child receives an excellent education rooted in the values of the Catholic faith. We are committed to supporting the spiritual, moral, and academic development of all pupils, helping them grow as confident, compassionate individuals who live out Gospel values.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Governing Body has three core functions:

1. Strategic Leadership – Setting the vision, ethos, and strategic direction of the school in line with Catholic values.
2. Accountability – Holding the Headteacher and senior leaders to account for the educational performance of pupils and the effective use of resources.
3. Financial Oversight – Ensuring the school’s budget is managed responsibly and supports high-quality teaching and learning.

Types of Governors in a Catholic School

• Foundation Governors – Appointed by the Diocese to preserve and develop the Catholic character of the school.
• Parent Governors – Represent the views of parents and contribute to decision-making.
• Staff Governors – Bring insight from the teaching and support staff.
• Local Authority Governor – Provides an external perspective on governance.
• Headteacher – Serves as an ex-officio member.

Commitment to Catholic Education

Our governors actively support:

• Liturgical life of the school – Attending Masses, assemblies, and celebrations.
• Religious Education – Ensuring RE remains central to the curriculum.
• Community links – Strengthening relationships between school, parish, and families.
